Fogo de Chao
soapsWell says...
ok, so the big draw of this place is the endless supply of meat, but, i have to admit, i was terrified of those gachos and their skewers and knives and their fancy names for things. so i didn't have a single bite of meat. it did look and smell good, but that's not much of a review.
for a fancy (and pricey!!!) place, fogo de chao had a surprisingly casual atmosphere that i really appreciated. of course, fancy also means that there's no labels on the salad bar. so, for an uncultured homebody like me, that was a little bit daunting. still, everything was fresh and delicious and i have no complaints about the taste at all.
dessert was amazing; i had the best piece of cheesecake i've ever had in my life and it was less than $8, a fairly average price for such a big slice.
they seemed to have a huge wine selection, including lots of south american varieties, but, since none of it came in a box, i didn't really know or care much about it. we had a 2006 cono sur 20 barrel merlot and, for a wine i didn't like, it was fairly good. it definitely didn't have that heavy alcohol bite that generally puts me off of wine in general.
the best part about this place was the definitely the service. typically, when dining out at pricier restaurants with my 20-something friends, the wait staff seems to write us off immediately, but everyone from the doorman to the busboy was friendly, curteous, attentive and extremely helpful. i was really blown away with the level of service across the board.
the price of this place is probably a big turn off for a lot of mofos, but check it out for lunch and save yourself $20 on the entree ($25).
